| The night before the contest Isabelle
invited Tara over to view George’s costumes. Tara made herself
comfortable on the couch while Isabelle changed George. The first
costume George came out in sent Tara into gales of laughter. George was scowling in a pink ballerina costume complete with a gold crown on his head. His orange tail was angrily swishing slightly back and fourth and his whiskers were curled back as if in a sneer. “Aunt Isabelle, why on earth would you choose that costume?” Tara asked while wiping tears from her eyes. “Well you see I had a bit of a problem with the costume pattern. It seems that George is rather three times the size of an average cat. I ended up returning the cat pattern and getting a small dog one. They only had a few left in the store. Apparently there is a dog costume show planned for this month as well.” Isabelle changed George again and brought him in to show off the second costume. George was wearing a black mask on his face and a black cape around his shoulders. His tail was twitching more violently now. “Is he supposed to be a bandit?” Tara asked with a grin. “Yes.” Isabelle answered trying to hold George still so Tara could get the full effect. “The costume is called masked bandit. It also comes with a small water pistol you can hang around his neck.” The third and final costume George came out in, Tara clapped for. George wore a loose Sailor suit with matching pants, shirt, and a little hat with an elastic string under his chin to keep it on. His tail came out through a hole in the back of the costume. George yowled angrily and jumped from Isabelle’s grasp to land on the floor. He trotted over to the corner where he licked his paws and his ruffled fur. The bits of fur that came through the costume anyway. “I vote for that one. He makes a very handsome sailor.” |
“Yes he does.” Isabelle
came and sat beside Tara on the couch and they both watched George in
silence for a moment. |
